2014-2020 ERDF equity financial instruments in Sweden

This fi-compass case study explores the implementation of equity financial instruments under the 2014-2020 European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Employment and Growth Operational Programmes in Sweden. These instruments include the national Green Fund, the Swedish Venture Initiative (SVI) and eight regional venture capital (VC) funds, with a combined financial size of EUR 210 million.

The equity instruments have achieved impressive outcomes supporting companies across sectors such as technology, life sciences, industry and cleantech. They achieved nearly full capital deployment, exceeded private co-investment targets and demonstrated a high leverage ratio. This case study is an update on the 2018 fi-compass case study focussing on the ex-ante assessment for these equity instruments.
