    Sharing the risk of business investments: lessons from the fi-compass case study library
EU Member States are being encouraged to revolve European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) through the adoption of financial instruments. Lessons learned from the successes of existing financial instruments that use ESIF support can provide valuable experience, and fi-compass is involved in sharing this experience through advisory products such as case studies.
Our most recently published case study features a venture capital (VC) coinvestment instrument from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in France.

Fishery sector support through ESIF financial instruments
A new scoping study has recently been released by fi-compass which examines the potential for financial instruments under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). The study gives essential insights on: the investment needs and opportunities that financial instruments could address in the seafood sector; the potential synergies and efficiencies with other ESI Funds; considerations for the most suitable types of financial products for the sector; and how advisory support can help realise the potential for financial instruments in the sector. fi-compass provides upstream advice on financial instruments through a number of channels, including our online hub and Twitter. To expand outreach and the dissemination of our tools and services that are available to managing authorities, financial intermediaries and all other interested stakeholders, fi-compass has recently launched a YouTube channel. A second meeting of the fi-compass expert group composed of experts in personal capacity and representatives of International Financial Institutions, took place on 5 November in Brussels. Guarantees for Europe’s agriculture and rural development sector
Member States are being encouraged to more than double the amount of financial instruments that use the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). Regional seminars in Riga and Vienna, as well as first European conference in Dublin have already taken place, organised by fi-compass in support of this goal. Read more

Ex-ante assessment for SME-related financial instruments: market analysis
Ex-ante assessments are mandatory for managing authorities setting up or continuing a financial instrument in the 2014-2020 programming period. Assessments highlight markets failures and financial gaps, they also estimate the potential added value and provide a solid base for a proposed investment strategy with clear targets and expected results. Since September we have run 14 successful fi-compass seminars in 12 different Member States and our seminar series continues in 2016 with a further 17 events in the pipeline.
