fi-compass Showcase 2019

The following stories about ESIF financial instruments and the projects they finance reached fi-compass as part of the fi-compass Showcase 2019 campaign. The stories present the impact of ESIF financial instruments on the ground – delivered through different financial instruments products (debt instruments, equity instrument) and in a number of sectors. The Showcase stories were submitted by different stakeholders involved in ESIF financial instruments from all across the EU.

The received submissions are published gradually on this page. All published submissions are also part of the fi-compass Country Pages. You can find them in the Features sections of the individual pages of the Member States.

Out of over 30 submissions received from all across the EU, ten stories were shortlisted for the Showcase on-site exhibition at FI Campus 2019, 4-5 December 2019 in Brussels. FI Campus 2019 participants will be able to vote at the event for their favourite stories among the shortlisted ones. The winners will be announced on the fi-compass website after the event.

FOSTER TPE-PME

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission tells the story of how four French companies were able to grow and expand thanks to ESIF financial instruments set up by the FOSTER fund of funds. Loan, guarantee and equity instruments set up by FOSTER in the Occitanie Region in France mobilise investment to support a range of different types of SMEs in sectors including digital, health, services and agriculture.

San Giorgio

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about the company San Giorgio, leader of 8 companies involved in the Sweet Campania project, financed by the National Operational Programme on ‘Enterprises and Competitiveness (EC NOP) 2014-2020’. The project, received loans of over EUR 6 800 000 from Fondo Rotativo Contratti di Sviluppo Asse III, a financial instrument co-financed with resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), to further develop its business.

A video story from Bulgaria: three urban development projects

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about three interconnected urban development projects that were undertaken in Sofia, Bulgaria and received loans from the Urban Development Funds of Sofia: the Fund for Sustainable Urban Development (FSUD) and the Sustainable Cities Fund (SCF), co-financed with European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) resources.

A video story from West Pomerania, Poland: Old Slaughterhouse

Old Slaughterhouse

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about the Old Slaughterhouse – a historical building situated in the Łasztownia district of Szczecin in the West Pomerania region in Poland. With help of a loan from the JESSICA initiative, co-financed with resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Old Slaughterhouse building was restored and is used now to host a number of companies.

Smart Bill

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about Smart Bill, an invoicing and inventory management software company from Bucharest, Romania. The company received as final recipient an equity investment from the JEREMIE Romania 2007-2013 financial instrument, co-financed with resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the national budget.

A video story from the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy: Metalcontrol

Metalcontrol

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about Metalcontrol, a small mechanic company from Poviglio, Reggio Emilia in the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy. The company received financial support through the region’s ERDF co-financed Energy Fund and used it to finance the technological transformation of the company’s facilities.

CIDAS

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about CIDAS, a social cooperative working in four regions in Italy. With help of the financial support of Emilia-Romagna region’s ERDF co-financed Energy Fund, the CIDAS nursing home in Ferrara in the Emilia-Romagna region purchased a micro-cogeneration plant with the objective to make this facility more energy efficient.

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story how four innovative Slovak companies were able to grow and expand thanks to received equity investment, co-financed with European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) and provided by the Slovak Investment Holding (SIH), the fund of funds managing ESIF financial instruments in Slovakia.

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about Pukas Surf, a small company from San Sebastián, Spain. This company received a loan under the SME Initiative in Spain. Pukas Surf is a family business manufacturing surf boards.

A video story from Croatia: Termostroj

Termostroj

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story from Croatia about the company Termostroj, producing electric boilers for central heating and many other purposes. With the help of the loan from the financial instrument ‘ESIF Growth and Expansion Loans’ co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), Termostroj could buy new equipment and modernise its premises.

Denona

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story from Croatia about the printing house Denona. With the loan from the financial instrument ‘ESIF Growth and Expansion Loans’ co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), Denona was able modernise its printing department by buying new printing equipment.

5 SMEs in Croatia benefitted from HAMAG-BICRO’s ESIF co-financed small loans and micro loans

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission consists of stories about 5 small businesses in Croatia that benefited from small loans and micro loans co-financed with European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) and managed by the Croatian Agency for SMEs, Innovations and Investments (HAMAG-BICRO).

A video story from Italy: Gomedia Satcom
 

Gomedia Satcom

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about Gomedia Satcom, an innovative start-up company based in Catania, Sicily, in the South of Italy. The company received a low-interest loan from Fondo Rotativo Smart&Start, a financial instrument co-financed with resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the National Operational Program ‘Enterprise and Competitiveness 2014-2020’, to further develop its business.

SWN Moravia supported by ČMZRB’s Energy Savings programme

Neurovalens

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about SWN Moravia, a company producing staircases and railings from the Czech Republic. The company received an interest-free loan from the Energy Savings programme provided by Czech-Moravian Guarantee and Development Bank (ČMZRB). This financial instrument is co-financed with resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). With this loan, the company replaced boilers generating heat for the company with the aim to significantly reduce its energy consumption, lower its emissions and make its heat production process more effective.

Vranov Beach Holiday Park


This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about Vranov Beach Holiday Park, a final recipient of a loan from the Expansion programme provided by Czech-Moravian Guarantee and Development Bank (ČMZRB). The Expansion programme is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). With the loan, the accommodation offer of Vranov Beach Holiday Park was widened.

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission includes a video story and a brochure about EquiFund. EquiFund is a fund of funds programme providing equity financing to companies in Greece. The initiative is co-financed inter alia with resources from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). EquiFund’s three investment windows: the ‘Innovation window’, the ‘Early Stage window’ and the ‘Growth Stage window’, are operated by overall nine financial intermediaries, selected by EquiFund’s fund of funds manager, the EIF.

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about Neurovalens, a small company from Northern Ireland producing wearable technology. The company received a loan from Invest NI's ‘Access to Finance’ financial instrument, co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

IFRRU 2020

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is a video story about IFRRU 2020, a financial instrument aimed to support investments in urban renewal, covering the entire Portuguese territory. This includes loans and guarantees, co-financed with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Cohesion Fund (CF).

This fi-compass Showcase 2019 submission is an English language summary of the second edition of the ‘Report on Financial Instruments co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds’, prepared by the Agency for Territorial Cohesion in Italy. The report describes market dynamics, the programming and implementing system activities for financial instruments in Italy.
