A seminar is being organised by fi-compass EaSI TA in the Netherlands on November 16. This will highlight good practice approaches to strategy and business models for microfinance institutions (MFIs) as well as explain innovative techniques for offering complementary business development services (BDS) alongside microcredit. A case study approach will be adopted during the event which will focus on Dutch experience from the Qredits MFI.

The intended audience for the event includes Greenfield MFIs and other microcredit providers looking to improve their business model and to reach sustainability, as well as organisations looking to further embrace technology into their business model and operations. The organisers expect an audience of approximately 30-35 participants, representing at least 30 different microfinance institutions.

Participants will learn about the Qredits business model, sustainability achievements, the importance of strategic partners such as the government, the banks or the European Union, as well as the role of technology in MFI business models.

In the morning, the seminar shall focus on the topic of sustainable business, including the use of guarantees, the role of the government, the cooperation with banks, internet marketing etc. The potential for using new technologies to gain efficiencies for MFIs will be included.

Technology will also feature in the afternoon session. Two parallel discussions will take place - one on the use of IT systems (Database management, use of external data sources, etc.) and another one on the development of BDS using e-learning platforms, setting up a mentoring network and trainings.
